If you mistakenly purchase or register for the UTME, instead of Direct Entry, then you should be happy, because candidates can now easily “Upgraded” their JAMB UTME registration form/PIN to a Direct Entry Form at no extra cost.
I wrote a detailed guide on how candidates can easily create their JAMB profile code and answer all possible questions. I think you’ll find this educative and important. Click Here to read this.
It is important to note here, that the Joint Admissions and Matriculations Board (JAMB) is trying to ease registration for direct entry candidates. Most DE candidates are not aware that they need to purchase their DE ePIN which is different from the UTME ePIN.
The board, speaking through its spokesperson, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, disclosed that all UTME/DE candidates can now “upgrade” or “convert” their UTME forms to that of Direct Entry instead of purchasing the two forms if they equally have the qualifications for Direct Entry Admission into any Universities of their choice.
How to Upgrade UTME Form to Direct Entry Form.
Speaking on this upgrade, the JAMB’s Head of Media, Dr. Fabian Benjamin disclosed that candidates who registered for JAMB through UTME and later obtained DE (Direct Entry) qualification or wish to use their Direct Entry qualifications for admission can easily upgrade their UTME to DE at no extra cost through their JAMB profile.
“Once a candidate registers for UTME and discovers he/she is qualified for Direct Entry, he or she is free to just upgrade to direct entry through their JAMB eFacility (Profile)”
This means that candidates who may have mistaken purchase/or register for UTME, instead of Direct Entry, and is eligible and qualified for DE Admission, should simply visit any of accredited JAMB center or JAMB offices and upgrade their UTME to Direct Entry instead of purchasing a separate Direct Entry Form.
Finally, it is important candidates note here that the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) authorities, advised candidates against using one phone number with another person. Take note that a phone number can only be used to register one candidate for UTME.

The Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) is used to gain admission into 100 Levels. Candidates seeking admission into any accredited Universities, Polytechnics, College of Education, etc are all required to participate in the JAMB UTME examination.
Question: Can candidates register for both Direct Entry and UTME?

You should know that even though Jamb direct entry and UTME are different, they are being run by the same examination body.
Question: Can I sit for JAMB and DE the same year?
Answer: Some candidates are confused and have asked numerous questions. Well, even if you have an ND certificate from a Polytechnic, you can’t register or participate in both the UTME and Direct Entry examination. You must choose one.
Reasons Why You Should NEVER Take UTME and DE together.
- First, you should know that the JAMB board allows you to create just one Profile account.
- All the details you provided during registration are in your JAMB profile account.
- You will do Biometric verification during the Registration and for your slip printout. This means you’ll need to do two fingerprint verification which will be a red alert.
- As always, JAMB always forbids candidates registering more than one time in a year.
- Similar details and using the same fingerprint will get JAMB technicians on your heel.
- Once JAMB confirms you registered for UTME and Direct Entry, you will be sanction for manipulating the system.
- JAMB in most cases, always catchs the culprit.
